What is the difference between cement and concrete?
Concrete is a composite material that consists of cement, sand, and gravel. It is utilized for various construction applications, including foundations, sidewalks, and road surfaces. Cement, on the other hand, is a crucial component of concrete. It contains a specialized hardening agent, which appears as a gray powder, responsible for the solidification process. Why does concrete need cracks?
Concrete, like other materials, undergoes slight volume changes as it dries. To accommodate these changes and prevent random cracking, joints are intentionally placed in concrete pavements and floors. These joints allow the concrete to crack in a controlled, straight line at the designated points when shrinkage occurs due to volume changes. How is concrete measured?
Concrete is typically measured in cubic yards. A cubic yard of concrete is equivalent to 27 cubic feet, measuring 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet. The weight of a cubic yard of concrete is approximately 4,000 pounds. To accurately determine the amount of concrete mix required for your project, we recommend using the Roadrunner Ready-Mix calculator. This tool will help ensure you have the precise quantity of concrete needed for your specific requirements.
